Richard Kitson, speaker for 2011

Richard Kitson

The South West Housing Initiative is a unique partnership of the professions, trade bodies, employers and the trades unions which argues the case for the provision of sufficient and affordable housing as a key component of successful local and regional economies. Richard Kitson has been involved with SWHI since its creation over five years ago and has been Chair since 2009.

He is also Chair of Wiltshire Rural Housing Association a growing not for profit provider of affordable homes. As a freelance consultant he works with a variety of clients advising on their business strategies, leadership and governance. He also mentors and coaches senior executives. He is on the Board of Artichoke, a creative arts production company

Until autumn 2009 Richard had grown and led Aster Group which is one of the leading south west based housing association groups. The Group had assets exceeding £570m, an annual turnover of £80m and employed over 900 people. Earlier experience included Housing Director at Bath City Council and Test Valley in Hampshire and Group Director for The Guinness Trust. Amongst other roles he has been a University External Examiner and on the Editorial Advisory Panel of a trade magazine.

Richard is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and was its President in 2001/02. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (RSA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He was awarded an OBE in 2009.
