Sustainability - learning from Africa - Malcolm Worby
In this session, Malcolm Worby will explain how his interest in architecture has led to him becoming a champion of sustainable building. With illustrations from real life he will talk of design and construction of buildings using adobe, cob, rammed earth, straw bale, and other natural and traditional building materials and advise on natural and sustainable energy systems including solar heating, cooling, and power; wind and hydro power generating. He will also show water supply and resource management, including rainwater harvesting, grey-water recycling, irrigation methods, water storage and water purification in action.
Whilst Malcolm currently works in Africa he has worked world-wide and he will illustrate how sustainable methods can be used to good effect on homes for the rich and famous.
