Speaker Biography
Hugh Laird
Hugh Laird has run his own training and development management consultancy for 14 years.
He has been a qualified housing professional for 37 years, working for 19 of those years in housing management for Local Authorities and Housing Associations. He rose through the ranks to become Deputy Chief Executive for Mercian Housing Association prior to becoming a consultant in 1992.
Hugh has been heavily involved in training for 18 years, and initially chose to specialise in staff development, particularly via programmes of competency-based management development training courses. He later developed an interest in directors’ development programmes, and from here developed a full expertise in the full range of Governance issues, working with "not for profit" Boards throughout the UK. Hugh has served as a board member of a Leicestershire based Housing Association.
Together with David Morgan, Hugh formed the Board Development Agency in 2004. Yvonne Atkinson replaced David Morgan in 2005. Hugh is a serving member of the Advisors Panel for the TSA's Regulatory Framework consultative group.
