The South West Housing Event, England's premier regional housing conference and exhibition, organised by the South West Region of the Chartered Institute of Housing.

Housing delegates will debate how to re-invigorate communities and housing in the South West in the run up to the May election at the Chartered Institute of Housing South West (CIH SW) Housing Event in Torquay from 14 - 16 April 2010.

The Conference theme - Housing - What's the Good News? - promotes the positive contribution of housing to economic and social policy within the region. Topics to be discussed will include re-invigoration of communities, combating anti-social behaviour, preventing homelessness and building much needed affordable and carbon neutral homes in the South West.

In the lead up to the general election on May 6 over 800 housing professionals will be attending the annual CIH SW Housing Event at the Palace Hotel in Torquay.

Speakers at this year's Housing Event are David Blunkett, MP and former Home Secretary who continues to inform government policy on the voluntary sector, social mobility and affordable credit; Yasmin Alibhai Brown fiery social commentator, journalist and author; David Ashmore, Chair of the National Housing Federation South West and Yolanda Barnes who specialises in residential, development and regeneration issues at Savills plc, real estate service provider.

Brian Miller, current Chair of the CIH SW said, "The timing of this year's Housing Event gives South West housing professionals the ideal platform to show how the housing industry can make a positive contribution to economic and social policy within the region. Quality of life in Britain's communities, within an economy where there will inevitably be cuts in the public sector, is going to be a key issue over the next few years to the mainstream majority of voters. I am confident that housing professionals will rise to meet these challenges and this conference offers us all an opportunity to discuss the opportunities that this new decade brings for the future of housing and communities."
